From the most ancient time of human existence, stories of strange man-animals have been passed down in legends and myth. These stories have been told in all parts of the world, and are remarkably similar. How could such stories be created, and why? Could the collective unconscious memory of humanity hold within it lurking shadows of creatures we once knew? Creatures that today exist only as legend and myth-could there be more-is there more? Fossil records firmly establish that once there did exist a giant ape-like creature called Gigantopithecus. Scientists have determined that this ape-like creature was between 10 and 12 feet in height and weighed approximately 1,200 pounds. This creature actually did exist, but no one really knows much more about about it other than its weight and height, and no one knows anything about its behavioral characteristics. Could it have been the ancestor to the sasquatch of today? no one really knows-nor does it matter. The simple fact that such creatures did exist at one time makes the possibility of ape-like giants existing today real. "Notes From the Field, Tracking North America's sasquatch" is a study into this issue, it covers ancient descriptions from different parts of the wotld and tracks this creature to modern times and discusses recent field discoveries.

Notes From the Field Tracking North America sasquatch william jevning 9781452848013 Books

This Sasquatch book covers plenty, author William Jevning delves into the history of sightings from hundreds of years ago to present times. Jevning is one of the main authorities in his field, & his writing is never dry or boring. This book includes many pix, maps, illustrations that add to the whole reading experience. It's gratifying to read that Mr. Jevning himself has been an eye-witness to the creature we know as Big Foot. To those who poo-poo the whole idea I say keep an open mind. I didn't see my first live moose until my early 50s, they ARE out there in the woods, just becuz you don't see one yourself doesn't mean they DON'T exist.

I loved the author's supposition that perhaps those "gigantopithicus" bones are actually Sasquatch bones. This book gives a lot to consider. Absolutely one of the better Big Foot books.

Notes From the Field Tracking North America sasquatch william jevning 9781452848013 Books Reviews

I purchased the “unregistered" version for my for the low price of three dollars, and I suppose that means that it is little more than a manuscript. It is in bad need of a proofreading, as typos, misspellings, and missing possessive apostrophes abound.

Nevertheless, Mr. Jevning's book is an absolute page-turner. Every aspect of the mystery is covered by an author who has spent a great deal of time in the field. I do like the works of Loren Coleman and others who are mainly chroniclers, but Notes From the Field is a much more compelling book because the author is primarily a boots-on-the-ground researcher. I will definitely read anything else that Mr. Jevning has to offer.
I have all of William Jevning's books and I absolutely love them! These are fantastic reads, and is like Sasquatch field training 101...although Mr Jevning will tell you...these are no big, cuddly teddy bears! He learned his set of skills from Rene Dahinden, who was one of the foremost experts in this amazing field of research. Truly well done books. I can't pick a favorite to be honest. Just get all three, as I did!
I have to had the pleasure, and good fortune,to have learned so much, from so many great, amazing, and knowledgable folks throughout the Bigfoot/Sasquatch community,in the last few years. That being said, there are a few researchers, through their books, writings, and papers, that I've found extremely interesting, expertly documented, and unbiased in their efforts, and even manage to stay away from the drama and etc, that often takes away the spotlight, from the main topics,of this special place in the world. And,as they can get in deep with the details, and certain other advanced topics of these amazing giants of the forest,it's still conveyed in a way, anyone can follow, and understand, and not help but be excited. In my honest opinion,Mr William Jevning, has all these traits down to a science, and is definitely one of the few researchers,I've learned an impressive amount of valuable information from.
"Notes From the Field,Tracking North America's Sasquatch" is a special book,in an ever expanding library. Whenever I meet someone new to this subject, and area of research,or even just causally interested, this outstanding book is one of four,I highly recommend.
William Jevning does a fantastic job, starting out first thing, with a bit of a historical lesson on the subject, then dives into many well documented, and highly interesting accounts of eye witnesses, and encounters, that are bound to leave an impression on anyone, especially our newest friends to the field! And,also what I as well consider important,he gives a great history lesson,on the few dedicated individuals that took time to give this investigation some very hard work, and deep thought, back when the Sasquatch was not known nationally, but in very remote corners of the Pacific Northwest. In the last few chapters,William presents many instances, and examples of evidence,of every shape and form, from many places that most may not think the Sasquatch may be! For folks like myself,it seldom gets any better than this,,,if ever! Lol!
So in closing, whether you just want to see what all the fuss is,or you've had a sighting,or experience with one of these incredible, amazing, and all too real beings, and want to learn some quality info, you will not be disappointed with Mr Jevning's "Notes From the Field",witch,is what I consider to be one of the future textbooks on this subject, and deservingly so.
Notes From the Field, Tracking North America's Sasquatch is okay. It reads like Jevning's field and sasquatch research autobiography. What is notablly different about this book is Jevning's accounts of his friendships and interactions with notable Pacific Northwest sasquatch researchers of the 60's and 70's Rene Dahinden (who tried for 20 years but couldn't disprove the infamous Patterson-Gimlin film of "Patty"), Bob Gimlin, Bob Titmus, Roger Patterson, and John Green. Another notable feature of this book is the author's account of what really happened with the Patterson-Gimlin film. This book is not a quantum leap in sasquatch research but it is a good book overall. However, I have to be honest; I did not like the writer's non-engaging writing style. Historical books are difficult to write in an engaging manner and this book is no exception.
A very interesting, thought provoking insight on the subject of Bigfoot. The author, while not a polished and well edited writer, presents a growing list of background information, building the case of the possibility of a large bipedal creature living in the Northwest US. The evidence is fairly well laid out, presenting the idea that while the name 'Bigfoot' is recent, there are stories of giant hairy men roaming the forests of the world for a long time. The Native American history of the creature is presented, as well as White settler accounts, even more recent accounts, showing that Sasquatch has been around for a long time, and is not a recent invention. He further examines other evidence and sightings, giving good supporting evidence in presenting his case.
A good book for someone who is interested in Sasquatch, and who is trying to sort fact, hoax, and fiction.
